Telecommunications company Freerunner has proposed the setting up of free Wi-Fi hotspots in community locations and low-cost Wi-Fi nods for commercial centres across the
Speaking on the scheme, the CEO of Freerunner Owen Geddes said that access to the internet is almost as important as any other fundamental right today, as it immensely helps in day-to-day business. Noting that the internet was still away from the reach of the masses, he unveiled the company’s plan to provide the first 50 Wi-Fi hotspots on its own finances. He categorically said that his company and its staff were well poised to install these fifty connections at any place in the country, no matter how far away they are. He informed that other places would be added as soon as the company gets some sponsors.
For the current plan, Freerunner has asked residents to propose places of their choice for the installation of the Wi-Fi nodes, believing that locals will have the best information about places that will require connections for the benefit of all living in their locality.
